Volunteer

nominations

Those who wish to nominate someone for Volunteer of the Year have until midnight Thursday.

Letters of nomination should be as specific as possible about why the candidate should be honored, including contact information for the nominator and for anyone who could speak about the nomination.

Send nominations by email, through the U.S. Postal Service, or in person as follows:

• by email to star@grandcoulee.com

• by mail to Volunteer, PO Box 150, Grand Coulee, WA 99133

• in person to The Star, 3 Midway Ave., Grand Coulee.

Letters of nomination will be published in the Feb. 17 Star and online at grandcoulee.com.

An online poll will be set up and accept responses until Feb. 24.

The honoree will be named in The Star March 2.

Two named to

scholarship

committee

Councilmembers Lonna Bussert and Aaron Derr will again serve as members of the Electric City committee to recommend recipients at Lake Roosevelt High School for an Association of Washington Cities scholarship.

Nordine at

health district

Carol Nordine, a former council member at Electric City, was named by the present council to represent the city on the Grant County Health District board. Councilmember Brad Parrish was named to represent the city on the Grant County Transit Authority board.

Byers is pro tem

Tammara Byers was named mayor pro-tem for Grand Coulee’s city government at the city’s council meeting last Tuesday night.

Blood drive

Monday

There will be a Grand Coulee Community Blood Drive Monday, Feb. 22, at the community room at Coulee Medical Center. The drive, conducted in conjunction with Inland Northwest Blood Center, will be from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Emergency

calls reported

Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Fish reported to the Grand Coulee council that his department made 391 ambulance calls in 2015, 21 percent of those calls in Coulee Dam. He stated that the department made 46 fire calls during the year.

Planning

reunion

Grand Coulee High School alumni will meet Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m., at the Methodist Church in Grand Coulee, to plan the group’s all-school reunion scheduled for Aug. 12, 13. All classmates are welcome.
