Lady Raiders split matches

The Lady Raiders won in three after losing in three last week.

On Manson’s home court, Lake Roosevelt lost in a three-game set Sept. 22 before defeating Tonasket in Coulee Dam Thursday in a three-game sweep.

The match at Manson was disappointing as the Lady Raiders came out with poor energy, head coach Kasey Garvin said. “They came in with a very strong energy, and we had no energy,” she said.

After the loss, Garvin challenged the team to rebound quickly from the loss, rather than let it linger.

“On Wednesday, we addressed things that needed to be fixed, then moved on,” she said. “I tried very hard not to re-hash any of Tuesday evening in Wednesday afternoon’s practice.”

And the Lady Raiders did rebound on their home court Thursday, sweeping the Tigers 3-0.

“I think all of the girls decided that we aren’t going to let one loss get us down,” Coach Garvin said.

She highlighted the performance of several players.

Sean Garvin served 30 times and “completely took Tonasket out of their offensive system,” Coach Garvin said.

Aiyanna Picard made a great contribution at the net with her kills, the coach said, and the seniors shone in Garvin’s eyes because of their leadership in the match.

That leadership quality is even more important this year than most, as Garvin is the only coach for three teams.

“Flying solo, coaching three teams this season, they make my transitions between JV/C practice to varsity practice each day smooth,” she said. “Then on game days they handle getting the team prepared while I’m coaching the JV game.”

Garvin also thanked the trainers for their contribution to the winning effort. “I have to thank our trainers, Loren Endsley and Cassi Wendt, for all their dedication to getting my girls physically fit and strong each morning,” she said.

Last night the Lady Raiders were scheduled to travel to Brewster to take on the tough Lady Bears. Thursday, at Gailord Nelson Gym in Coulee Dam, the Lady Raiders will host the Okanogan Bulldogs, starting at 5:30 p.m. Okanogan is leading the Central Washington 2B North with a perfect record thus far into the season.
