Want an old school building sitting on about eight acres of property?

Center Elementary School in Grand Coulee is on the sales block, and interested buyers have until August 5 to get their bids in.

The building and property was recently appraised at $190,000.

“It won’t go for that, and we expect it to be much more,” stated Superintendent Dennis Carlson.

The school was vacated at the close of the 2013-14 school year and its near 300 students helped open the new school facility in Coulee Dam last September.

Center School housed kindergarten through fourth grade, with the new elementary wing being home to grades K-6.

The school district purchased the building and surrounding land from Continental Land Company late in October, 2014, for $155,000, with the idea of putting the building and property up for sale.

The sale date is now.

Continental Land Company had provided the site for a school with the stipulation that when it no longer was used for a school the property would revert back to CLC.

The board acted promptly to get the property into school hands late last year.

By law, the district has to get 90 percent of the appraised value before it can be sold.

The surrounding land offers several good view lots for residential construction. How the building would be used would be up to the successful bidder.
