A Mansfield man was found deceased in the water in Banks Lake near Barker Canyon Thursday.

A Soap Lake woman, Sheryl Montgomery, found Michael R. Nachtigal, 63, and notified the sheriff's office in Grant County about 3:30 p.m.

Grand Coulee officer Chris McClanahan assisted in the recovery of the body until county officers arrived on the scene.

Sheriff Tom Jones stated that investigators found no evidence of foul play.

Nachtigal worked as a general construction laborer and framer and on several ranches and farms in the area.

He also spent a short time working for Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife planting wildlife habitat in Douglas County.

Eric Braaten, who works for that agency described Nachtiagal as "one of the hardest working men I have known."

"He was always there when you needed help and he was a genuine friend," recalled Braaten. "He lived life on his terms and the way he wanted. ... He loved his animals and he always put others' needs before his own."
