Proposing goals for local veteransv

I have had discussions with Richard Black, athletic director at Lake Roosevelt High School, about recognizing our area veterans. While attending a district playoff game at Mt. Spokane High School, we noticed a huge banner honoring all veterans. We kind of discussed ways we could do the same in our new school. In the near future, also, there are plans for a new gymnasium. We could sponsor a new scoreboard for the new gym. These are two goals that I would like to propose to the local veterans organizations to seriously consider.

I would be willing to lead efforts to do this. I have received quotes for the price of a banner. It would be 4 feet by 40 feet and cost $644. This is a quote from Sunflower Graphics in Grand Coulee. I haven’t looked for a cost of a new scoreboard because it could be farther in the future. This, however, could be a long range community goal for all veterans’ groups in the area. I would also like to encourage younger community members to embrace this notion to honor our veterans year round instead of just once a year.

There has been an account set up under “Veteran’s Banner /Scoreboard” at the North Cascades Bank in Grand Coulee. If you would like to contribute, donate or sponsor, please do so there. It will be set up and administered by the local American Legion Post# 157. If you have any questions or ideas, you may contact Shawn Neider at 1-509-683-3059. I hope that everyone in the community can be part of this effort. I want to thank everyone for their efforts toward this goal.
