A spaghetti dinner set for Saturday will help fund a project that brings together sixth graders from Coulee Dam and Nespelem schools to pave their way as eventual classmates in high school.

The Grand Coulee Dam Rotary Club chose to work with the sixth graders for the annual fund raiser, possibly instilling an early lesson in community service.

The annual trip to a Leavenworth challenge course is designed to build relationships and get the kids to work together. The first one took place 2012.

Nate Piturachsatit, a teacher on special assignment and interim dean of students at Lake Roosevelt Elementary, told the Rotary Club that the June 1-3, $7,500 trip is mostly funded, but short by about $1,600. The club decided to take the sixth grade project on and will try to make enough at the spaghetti dinner to make up the difference, plus bring in funds for other club projects.

The night will also feature a silent auction.

Rotary club members and sixth-graders have tickets, and admission can be paid at the door.
