Deputy Key of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office wrote a letter of commendation, praising National Park Service ranger Mark Arsenault and Dr. John Baumeister for their roles in the rescue of two Electric City boys stranded on a cliff just outside of Electric City early this spring. The boys were stuck in a spot about 250 feet up from the base of a cliff and the two rock climbers rappelled down to lift them to safety. The letter states that Ranger Arsenault is a respected professional and a fine representative of the Coulee Dam National Recreation Area.

Michael Buchanan, deputy director of the Big Bend Economic Development Council, a speaker at the recent GCD Chamber of Commerce meeting, said that the Grant County Transit Authority is seeking $270,000 in grants from the state Department of Transportation for an 18-month rural transportation demonstration project, that would provide regular scheduled transportation linking nine communities between Grand Coulee and George, Washington. Rides would cost $1 from Grand Coulee to Soap Lake and another $1 to go on to Moses Lake.
