Cox receives three-agency award

One of Grand Coulee's first female electricians has been recognized for distinguished government service at the close of her 38-year career. Mary Cox received the Federal Columbia River Power System Meritorious Service Award during a Dec. 16 ceremony in Boise.

Cox is an electrical foreman for the Third Power Plant at Grand Coulee Dam. She is a native of Nespelem and has worked at the dam since July, 1976.

Presenting the award was Bureau of Reclamation Pacific Northwest Regional Director Lorri Lee. The award is given jointly by the three federal power agencies on the Columbia River - Reclamation, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the Bonneville Power Administration.

"The best of the best," ceremony recognizes individuals for their dedicated and outstanding performance in their jobs.

"Mary is well known at Grand Coulee for her willingness to accomplish tasks and instill pride in her work," said Brad Dudley, hydro-maintenance supervisor ll for the Third Power Plant.

"She has top notch teaching abilities and vast knowledge of the third power plant electrical system," he said.

Cox has taught and mentored many employees through the years and those employees have benefited by receiving promotions, awards, and successfully furthering their careers.

"I can truly say that it has been a pleasure and great honor working with such a professional individual," Dudley said.

Cox will retire in January, 2015.
