Jody and Ben Sammuels of Nespelem are the proud parents of Ben Cyrus Jr., born Saturday at Coulee Community Hospital at 6:37 a.m., 22 minutes after the mother arrived in an ambulance from home. The baby boy is the first birth under the hospital's new midwifery program and he was delivered by Dawn Lovelace, the hospital's Certified Nurse Midwife. Lovelace recently began offering obstetrics and women's health services, which had not been offered except on an emergent basis for several years. Bringing the services back was the priority of the Coulee Medical Foundation in 1992 when the group raised $20,000 to refurbish the birthing room.

Randy Spotts will perform classical guitar music at That Italian Place on Thursday, Dec. 1 while the restaurant serves its $7.95 a plate dinner special of roast pork, and all the trimmings. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be stopping by the Coulee Dam Shopping Center, Saturday, Dec. 17 near Beyond Espresso to visit with children and hand out treats, plus the Coulee Dam Fire Dept. will give free rides on a Fire Truck during the afternoon. Seahawks fans, here's a deal you can't turn down, Merv's Chervon and Mini Mart has Seahawks drinking glasses as it's special of the week, priced at $$1.29 each or 3 for $3.00.

Gary's Wood Shed on Coulee Boulevard in Electric City is now open with a sale through Christmas on unfinished furniture, custom built furniture, children's furniture and other wood products. Gary Reit, the shop's owner/manager, invites everyone to stop by for coffee and cookies and enter a drawing for a free adult rocking chair. Geri and Archie Evans will be on hand to sharpen saws and do small engine repairs.

A birthday dinner for Isabel Arcasa of Nespelem, the oldest living Colville member lady on the reservation, was held at the Nespelem Catholic Longhouse on Nov. 25.

Benjie Antonio, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Antonio of Electric City, will represent Lake Roosevelt High School at the Washington State 3-day HOBY Youth Leadership seminar in the spring. HOBY is a foundation established by Hugh O'Brian in 1958 to seek out, recognize and reward leadership qualities in high school sophomores and bring them together with leaders in various professions.

At its late November meeting, the Grand Coulee town council granted a business license to Pacific Coast Seafood and Joe's Pawn and Collectibles and building permits were issued to Midway Mall for remodeling and Mr. Richard Gale to add a roof to his mobile home. The council heard a plea from Lou Fowler, manager of the Flying J Convenience Store, to reconsider its long standing denial of a beer and wine license. She told the council that the school district is no longer opposed to a permit even though the store is located near the junior high. She was informed that the city will act on her application once the State Liquor Board has made its determination.
