A burned out house at 611 Holly Street in Coulee Dam is going to get cleaned up.

The town accepted bids from Eastside Wood Recycling of Moses Lake to rid the property of the buildings and vegetation.

Town officials said the Moses Lake firm will begin the cleanup on Monday, Oct. 20. It will cost the town $8,925 to remove the burned out buildings and another $5,775 to removed burned trees and other debris. The total cost will total $14,700.

The house burned Sept. 18, 2012, and has been a Holly Street eyesore since.

A neighbor, Heidi Bradeen, who lives at 609 Holly, had appeared before the town council to complain about the mess next door to her property. She had stated that she "could smell the burned out house" from her property.

Town officials said that they would likely put a lien on the property so they could eventually recover any expense they have in cleaning up the property.

Not long after Bradeen appeared before the council, there was another fire on the property, this time it burned a large evergreen tree. This will become part of the cleanup.

Bradeen said for a time there were people staying in the garage. The garage didn't burn in the original fire.

Town officials at a council meeting estimated the value of the property after it was cleaned up as $7,000-$8,000.

The town had called for bids earlier but determined that the bid of $21,000 was excessive.

Eastside Wood Recycliing is the same firm that had the contract to demolish the Lake Roosevelt High School classroom wing.
