Students, staff, bus drivers, and the entire lot, will celebrate the opening of the new Lake Roosevelt school Sept. 15, with T-shirt mania.

Everyone will receive a Lake Roosevelt T-shirt to wear on the first day of school. The gold, black and white design is on a crimson colored t-shirt background featuring a new Lake Roosevelt logo on the front and sponsors on the back.

Near the shoulder on one side is the date, Sept. 15, 2014, signifying the first day in the all-new school. The T-shirt will also be welcomed for wearing on Fridays throughout the year, the official Lake Roosevelt "love" day.

About 900 of the T-shirts have been ordered at a cost of $5,000, paid for by the sponsors listed on the reverse side, with a little help from the elementary and high school student body organizations.

The sponsors as listed on the back are: Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union, R & A Cafe, Junkers, Bobby O's Storage, , Les Schwab, North Cascade National Bank, Colville Tribal Credit, Loepp Furniture, Grand Coulee Center Lodge, Coulee Creamery, Jack's 4 Corners, Dr. & Mrs. Dennis Carlson, Bird's Auto Shop, Foisy & Kennedy, La Presa Mexican Restaurant, Lucas Bird Motor Sports, Siam Palace, Teepee Drive-in, Young's Welding & Supply Company, Grand Coulee Senior Center, Nespelem Valley Electric Cooperative and Harvest Foods. Kimmel Athletics, which printed the shirts, also got into the act by reducing the price of the shirts.

The T-shirts will be free for all.

The idea grew out of Lake Roosevelt High School's practice of T-shirt celebrations. The new twist came from Sheila Darnold, secretary at the high school, and a group of students who designed a new shirt for the school that features the new logo and then went out and sold the idea to the sponsors.

Superintendent Dennis Carlson told the school board that bus drivers and staff will all be wearing the special shirts when students show up for the first time. The students will all receive one of the free shirts, and the first day should see a sea of crimson and a wave of pride throughout the school.
