Grand Coulee Police Officer, Dan Holland, saved a Grand Coulee woman from a house fire Friday night. At 2:27 a.m. the report came in as a brush fire at Nancy Fish's home. Seconds later it was considered a structure fire. Officer Holland responded and woke Mrs. Fish up who was sleeping and more than likely saved her life.

Two LRHS basketball players have been asked to play on the Elite State Team this summer. Jessica Loe, a junior, and Steve Breeze, recently graduated, will both get the opportunity to play against the best players in the state at the high school level.

20 Years Ago

Warner Bartleson, who guided Coulee Community Hospital through the contentious birth of the hospital district and into an area of growth, announced his retirement last week at their board meeting.

Rocky Seylor won big at the recent Prospectors' Days stock car race in Republic, Wa. With his number 13 race car that he built from the ground up. he won the "Heat Race" and the "Main Event".

Gary Haven, son of Ed and Carolyn Haven, received his obligation into the VFW Post 3157 this week. Gary has been in the Navy the past 3 years and just completed a tour on the U.S.S. New Jersey.

40 Years Ago

Wayne Stark, the 9 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Roberts was fatally injured Sunday morning when he was struck my an automobile while riding his bike on the corner of McGovern Street and HW 174. The cause of the accident is still under investigation but it is known that the boy's bike had no brakes.

50 Years Ago

Speaking before a large crowd Saturday, was Governor Albert Rosellini at the Grand Opening of Steamboat Rock State Park. He talked of the importance of recreation as a major factor in the heath of Washington citizens but also as a necessary industry in the economics of our State and in the local area.

60 Years Ago

The Northwest Indians will hold their annual celebration at their campground 2 miles south of Nespelem, beginning July 4th and lasting 10 days. This year's committee members in charge of the event are Joe Redthunder, Lige Williams and Harry Owhi.
