Beautiful cars coming to town

The Coulee Cruizers Car Club will host their annual Best Rod Run by a Dam Site on Father’s Day weekend, June 13-15. Look for fancy cars with unbelievable paint jobs cruising the area Friday night on a boulevard cruise and poker run, after pizza at Hometown Pizza.

This is the club’s 30th annual event, and each year it brings to town dozens of car enthusiasts and the objects of their pride, hard work, and considerable investment.

Their “show and shine” event on Saturday at Banks Lake Park will culminate in a 2 p.m. awards ceremony, just after most folks are done eating at the Lions Club barbecue just downhill at North Dam Park.

In conjunction with Koulee Kids Fest that day, the car club will give all attending children the chance to vote for which car should get the “Kids’ Choice” trophy. That’s in addition to their annual “People’s Choice” award.

Grant County Port District 7 commissioners extended airport Manager Bob Babler’s contract for another year at their meeting last Thursday. Babler is in charge of operations at the Grand Coulee Dam airport located along Banks Lake.

Banks Lake golf course officials advised Port District 7 commissioners that the 18-hole course now has 84 paid-up members. The Port District owns and operates the golf course.

Small school bands play

Band students from Grand Coulee Dam schools teamed up with Brewster, Bridgeport and Oroville to form a North Central Washington small school marching band and participated in the Spokane Lilac Festival.

…And one for fun

A number of band students from the Grand Coulee Dam district schools will enjoy a few hours at Silverwood fun park in Idaho June 6. Students from fifth-grade band (14), sixth-grade band (17), seventh and eighth grade band (16) and high school band (7) are all scheduled to go on the outing. While there, they will perform for a half hour.

Grand Coulee Dam School District has renewed its interagency agreement with Pateros District to provide psychological services to the two districts. Holly Weston is the employer of record. It is a continuation of an existing agreement. In a separate agreement between the Grand Coulee Dam and and Nespelem districts, Casey Clark will provide counseling services to the two districts.

Enrollment up

Enrollment for May in the Grand Coulee Dam School District was 663.58 full time students compared to 609 a year ago. This makes the average for the year so far at 669, or nearly 30 students above the budgeted amount.
