A quilt with 16 Owhi Lake T-shirts framed by all the colors of the rainbow was given to Gary Martin at his retirement luncheon April 30. The Owhi Lake T-shirt Quilt was a gift from the Nespelem School and was designed and quilted by Cindy St. Pierre. The Owhi Lake T-shirts spanned the years from 1993 through 2013. Martin, working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs forestry department for the last 36 years, spearheaded Owhi Lake Day as outdoor education for Nespelem School and other nearby schools. The annual event brought together with the students professionals from various science disciplines to the lake shore, where talks and exhibits centered on the location. School workers said Martin will be missed by his co-workers and the area schools. He is staying in the area and said the school would see him volunteer in the fall of 2014. "We wish you the best, Gary," said Nancy Armstrong-Montes, a retired teacher and now volutneer. "The Owhi Lake T-shirt Quilt will wrap you in memories."
