Chairman out in tribal primary

Colville Tribal Business Council Chairman Michael O. Finley was defeated in the primary election, certified last Thursday.

Finley represents Position 2 in the Inchelium District and that general election race will see Marvin Joseph Kheel (97 votes) go against Yvonne Swan (96 votes). Finley came in third with 74 votes. Others in that race were Martin R. Simpson (37 votes) and Pat Laramie-Brooks (28 votes).

In Omak District’s Position 1 race, Edwin L. Marchand led with 169 votes to John E. Gorr’s 91. Shirley K. Charley came in third with 83 votes. Others in that race were James A. McCuen with 77 votes and Kate Sanchez with 49 votes.

In Omak’s Position 2, the general election will see Michael E. Marchand, who garnered 228 votes, going against Duane E. Hall, Sr., who had 106 votes. Losing out was Darlene “Dar” Burke with 83 votes. Others competing in that race were Stuart J. Sellers with 35 votes and Launa L, Squeimkin with 21 votes.


In other races, incumbent Nancy Cawston Johnson in the Nespelem District Position 2 race, got 138 votes and will be challenged in the general election by Harvey Moses, Jr., who got 113 votes. Others running included Brian J. Nissen with 106 votes and Charlene BearCub with 94 votes.

In the Nespelem District Position 1 race, incumbent William “Billy” Nicholson II was the top vote getter with 208. He will be challenged by Amelia (Moses) Marchand with 155 votes. Shawnee N. BearCub got 85 votes.

There was no primary in the Inchelium District Position 1 race, nor in the Keller District Position 1 race.

Poll voting for the general election will be June 14.
