Brandon Byers was selected to be the principal of the new upper division assignment in the new school complex.

Byers, who currently holds the principal position at Lake Roosevelt High School, will be administrator of grades 7-12, when school opens Sept. 15.

Byers was interim principal of the Grand Coulee Dam Middle School before moving up to the high school two years ago. There were five candidates for the position. Byers had taught at the high school earlier for over four years.

At the same meeting Monday the board also approved the administrative model proposed by Superintendent Dennis Carlson. That model includes Byers’ position, a principal, Lisa Lakin, for grades K-6, an associate principal, yet to be selected, who will fill in for principals when they are absent, handle some activities, and do discipline. The team will also include a near half-time athletic director, a position not yet advertised.

Some of those who applied for the 7-12 principal position have indicated they would like to be considered for the associate position, Carlson stated.

Prior to the new administrative setup, the district has had three principals, one for each of its three schools. Under the new alignment, this will be reduced to two. The two present athletic director positions will be reduced to one under the new alignment.

Carlson said he expects that the school board will select the associate principal on May 14.
