I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Grand Coulee and Coulee Dam for having the foresight to have chosen such a great man to be their wrestling coach, Steve Hood.

I have watched and gotten acquainted with this man over the last years. It is abundantly clear that his cares for his wrestlers go far beyond mat time and wrestling. I have watched him instill “right and wrong” in his wrestlers. His message goes far beyond the mat time and carries many important examples for each boy to tailor his own values by. He teaches good manners in the restaurant right through to picking up spectators’ mess in the grandstands. These values obviously start with Steve and mirror what he wants his wrestlers to hold as important off the mat.

Steve’s message and its delivery are of particular importance to me as he has coached my grandson Kodie Horn for the past few years. This year Steve coached Kodie to his state championship. Kodie’s younger brother Kaleb will be the next Horn for Steve to work his magic on. Kodi’s victory makes three Horns in a row to be state champs. It all started with Kodie’s dad, Jason Horn. Number two, Jake Horn, Kodie’s cousin. Now Kodie. This old man’s buttons are bustin’ and we have four boys to go.

The entire Horn family is very appreciative of the huge amount of hours that Steve has volunteered for his coaching enterprise. All the boys subjected to Steve’s enterprise come away as better folks, thanks to Steve and his values.
