Grand Coulee City Council voted the $9,000 it pledged to support the maintenance of North Dam Park. The funds will come from the city’s hotel/motel tax monies and be given to the Coulee Area Park & Recreation District, the organization managing the park. The council had earlier made a pledge of support in its 2014 budget and voted the funds in its recent meeting.

Meeting canceled

Tonight’s Coulee Dam Town Council meeting has been cancelled due to a lack of a quorum, town officials said this week. The next council meeting will be April 9, at 6 p.m.

Joint field trip

planned

The school board approved a sixth-grade field trip for students from Grand Coulee’s Middle School and the sixth grade from Nespelem School. The field trip will take students to the Tall Timbers ranch near Leavenworth, and is being organized by middle school teacher Nate Piturachsatit for May 14-16.

Personnel changes

at schools

The school board made a number of personnel decisions Monday night. Jesse Utz was hired as a middle school paraprofessional; Marcy Doughty was named an office paraprofessional at the middle school; and Sheila Darnold is moving to the high school to fill a vacancy created by school Secretary Debbie VanGeystal’s move to the central district office.

In other action, the board granted a leave to Shannon Petersen at Center Elementary School.

to serve on

commission

The town of Coulee Dam is looking for people interested in serving on its Civil Service Commission. Those chosen will serve the town by helping make and/or enforce the rules for the operation of the commission, give practical tests to help determine the ability of applicants, conduct investigations, hear and determine appeals and complaints, hold competitive tests to determine the qualifications of police officers, and other such duties. To qualify, you must be at least 18 and have been a resident of Coulee Dam for at least three years. Those interested can contact Mayor F. Gregory (Greg) Wilder at 633-0320.

Student count up

Grand Coulee Dam School District student enrollment remains strong as February’s count came in at 666.68 students, some 26.68 students over budget. The district used a 640-student average in developing its 2013-14 budget.

Suspect arrested for burglaries

Lincoln County sheriff deputies arrested a Reardan man for burglary and theft charges after serving a search warrant at his residence and recovering stolen property Feb. 15.

Over the past several weeks, Sheriff Wade Magers said, deputies have been investigating property crimes in the Reardan area. Many man hours involving surveillance, follow up investigation and related case management have gone into the case, he said.

After obtaining the warrant, deputies assisted by Reardan police searched a residence where stolen property was recovered and identified by the legal owner.

“We believe there may be other stolen property in the residence,” Magers said.

Daniel R. Thompson was arrested and booked into the Lincoln County Jail on theft and burglary charges and additional felonies for narcotics charges are pending Magers said.

“We continue to urge the public to be our eyes and ears and report any suspicious activity to the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office at 725-3501, and do not hesitate to utilize 911 for emergencies,” he said.
