Raider boys drop two last week

The Raider boys lost two games last week, just as squads are jockeying for district berths, giving them a 9-9 win-loss record overall, 4-5 in league play.

Chance Garvin goes up for two.

The Raiders now need to win out to hold on to the number-two spot in the Central Washington 2B North to make it to the district tournament.

Against Liberty Bell Friday, the Raiders came out flat, and the Mt. Lions took advantage of LR's sluggish start to build a big lead, 16-5 at the end of the first quarter on the Raider home court.

Liberty Bell's continued attack and intensity in the second quarter pushed their lead to 19 points going into half.

In the first half, the Raiders committed many fouls, including a flagrant one that brought the crowd down on the referees.

In the third quarter, the Raider offense came alive, putting up 15 points, but Liberty Bell still outscored them with 18 for a Mt. Lion lead of 22 points, 51-29.

In the fourth quarter, the Raiders played their best at both ends of the court, scoring 23 and allowing only 14 for Liberty Bell, cutting their lead to just eight points. The Raiders looked to pull off a great comeback.

Then the Raiders committed fouls to preserve time and the Mt. Lions hit the free throws. The crowd heckled the referees when the Raiders again committed a flagrant foul. Three Lake Roosevelt players fouled out of the game.

Liberty Bell came away with the 65-52 victory.

Chance Garvin led the Raiders with 19 points. Jackson Louie added eight. Jacob Palmer and Merle Picard each contributed seven points against the Mt. Lions.

The Raiders looked to rebound Saturday in Yakima with a win over the Crusaders of Riverside Christian. LR and Riverside Christian were neck and neck in the first quarter and the score was all knotted up at 12. In the second, the Raider offense began to slow down and the Crusaders pulled ahead going into half with a four-point lead. At the end of the first half the score was RC 26, LR 22.

In the third quarter, the Raider offense produced just eight points. At the other end, the defense held the Crusaders to just five. LR looked to be making a comeback with the score RC 31, LR 30 at the start of the fourth.

Then the Crusaders found their second wind and put up 13 points as the Raider offense only managed six, for a final score of 44-36 for Riverside Christian

Chance Garvin led LR with 21 points. Jackson Louie added seven.

LR closes out the regular season with games against Oroville and Bridgeport.

Last night's game at Oroville featured a 4-14 Hornets team that gained a big win over Manson Feb. 6.

Friday night is the regular season finale at Gailord Nelson Gym as the Raiders host the Mustangs of Bridgeport, starting at 7:30. The Mustangs are also 4-14 overall and look to be the number-three team from the North in districts.
