Having suffered a four-point loss earlier in the week, the Lake Roosevelt boys were looking to rebound Saturday when they hosted the Hornets of Oroville. They got their bounce.

In the first quarter, LR did not score for six minutes and 30 seconds. At the end of the first LR was down 13-4.

But the Raider offense came alive in the the second quarter, scoring 29 points and holding the Hornets to just 11 for a 33-24 LR lead at the half.

Lake Roosevelt struggled on offense in the third, scoring just 11 points, but came alive again in the fourth with 23 points to seal the victory over Oroville, 67-49.

Head Coach Matt Simpson said he was “very pleased to see our guys bounce back after building a deficit in the first quarter. … We composed ourselves, gathered back our character we talked about playing with in the game, and came back as a team.”

Jackson Louie played up with the varsity and had a breakout performance.

“Jackson Louie, who had been scoring over 25 a game in the JV, made an argument to come up, and he performed well,” Simpson said.

Leading the Raiders with 22 points against the Hornets, Louie sparked the offensive explosion in the second quarter.

“He has solidified himself on the varsity squad after his great performance,” Simpson said.

At Liberty Bell, Jan. 21, the game stayed close until the final minute.

At halftime the Raiders led 22-20 and continued to hold small leads until the last portion of the fourth quarter.

LR was ahead 42-40 when the Mt. Lions rallied to their biggest lead on the back of two quick three pointers. LR tried to grab the win but the Mt. Lions made their foul shots to hold off the Raiders, 53-49.

“We fell short due to a high number of missed free throws and we allowed them to have too many offensive rebounds,” Simpson said. “We really played well, were up at half, tied at the end of the third, got to the free throw line 28 times, just couldn’t finish at the very end.”

The Raiders also had just nine turnovers, a season low.

Chance Garvin was the high-point man for the Raiders with 21 and shot 75 percent at the free throw line.

LR held the best scorer for the Mt. Lions to just 10 points. The lack of rebounding and poor performance at the free throw line tipped the scales in favor or the Mt. Lions.

The team’s win-loss ratio continues to sit at .500 after splitting the two games, but that could rise this week.

Last night the Raiders were scheduled to take on the Mustangs in Bridgeport. The Mustangs came into the game with a 4-10 record and a three-game losing streak. On Friday, LR travels to Manson for a rematch against the Trojans, whom they defeated 66-32 in Coulee Dam Jan. 14. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m.
