John W. Magers, 71, of Republic, Wash., passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, after a short battle with cancer. He was born to R.W. Magers and Marion(Danekas) Magers of Ritzville, Wash., on July 27, 1942, in Spokane.

John married Carol Lee Fowler of Republic on December 25, 1963. After they married, they moved to Coulee Dam where John began his teaching career. John was well known in eastern Washington by hundreds of students and faculty as he taught or administred at Coulee Dam, Odessa, Northport, Almira-Coulee-Hartline and Curlew School Districts.

John had many hobbies including hunting and camping with friends and family. For many years, he helped friends with horse racing and cattle roundups. John was particularly fond of watching his grandsons, Colton, Devin and Camryn play sports.

John was preceded in death by his father Wes Magers and mother Marion.

He is survived by his wife Carol Lee of 50 years and two sons: Wade and Penny of Wilbur and Travis and Lacie of Deer Park; three grandsons: Colton, Devin and Camryn. He is also survived by his brother Mark of Cheney and beloved mother-in-law Helen Fowler of Republic.

The family wishes to thank all of their friends and relatives for their support, the staff at the Republic Hospital and medical Oncology Associates of Spokane for their care during John’s illness. Donations can be made in memory of John W. Magers to the Republic Cemetery, the Ferry County Memorial Hospital or the Wilbur Wildcat Booster Club.

John’s memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Presbyterian Church, 605 Keller in Republic, Wash., at 2 p.m.
