We have a new Colorama Rodeo Queen.

Haley Wade, a 17-year-old senior from Ephrata, was crowned Oct. 13 after a number of field and question-and-answer tests at the Ridge Riders Rodeo Grounds.

She takes over from Erin Wieldraayer, this year's rodeo queen, who was present to help Wade go through the paces.

Wade rode her 10-year-old Apendix Quarter Horse "Latago Bee," during the Sunday tryouts. She was the lone applicant for the queen position, but still had to score high in all categories to win the honor.

Part of the tests Wade went through Sunday included a written exam, an interview, a prepared speech, a horsemanship test and a judgement on her attire. An official said she scored well.

Wade plans to go to Walla Walla Community College when she completes her senior year at Ephrata High School and then transfer to Central Washington University.

She is the daughter of Jeff and Beth Wade.

Wade went to state and lettered in WAHSET, an equine activity, and qualified to go to the state fair. She is active as a singer and plays the guitar, and also plays softball.

Wade has been involved in Future Farmers of America for four years and serves in her senior year as secretary of the organization. She has lettered in both track and softball.

Music has played a strong part in her life and Wade is very active in the choral arts program, and chamber choir for the past two years and caberet for three years. She plans to tour with the chamber choir this year.

Wade has competed in a number of equine events and stated that she is confident in front of people.

She said working with horses has helped give her the confidence to go to the next level and represent the Ridge Riders and Colorama as queen.
