A cash award of $500 is available to an Okanogan County woman for the Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Award.  This award is presented by Soroptimist International of Okanogan Valley to a woman who is head of her household and must obtain education or skills training to enter or re-enter the workforce in order to support herself and her family.  Women who are attending or have been accepted to an undergraduate program or vocational/technical program are eligible.  The cash award can be used for any necessary expenses related to their educational pursuits. The Women’s Opportunity Award exemplifies Soroptimist’s mission to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.

The club winner’s application is forwarded for additional consideration, including region-level awards of $5000, $3000 or $1000.  Three finalist awards of $10,000 will be presented by Soroptimist International of the Americas next spring.

Application forms are available at Wenatchee Valley College in Omak or online at siokanoganvalley@soroptimist.net. The completed application form must be received by the Club on or before December 13, 2013. For questions, please contact BJ Bleakney at 322-1520.
