Grand Coulee’s mayor and council got a tongue-lashing last Tuesday night for what Becky Billups said was “not doing anything,”

She repeatedly has appeared before the council asking that the city enforce its ordinances in regard to keeping up property and putting drug offenders away.

Billups lives on Burdin Boulevard and repeatedly has been to council meetings to make formal complaints.

“I want to know why you don’t do something,” she repeatedly stated last Tuesday night.

“There are junk cars, garbage everywhere,” she declared.  “I want to know why you don’t do something,” she repeated.

Mayor Chris Christopherson and the council just took the tongue-lashing, and didn’t respond to Billups’ comments.

Billups said she doesn’t feel safe in her own home and keeps a gun by her bedside.  She said she was told, “why don’t you move.”  She replied, “who is going to buy my home when the neighborhood is like it is?”

She told the council, “I am going to find someone who will listen to me.  This is the last time I am coming to this council,” she added.

A city official stated that pictures would be taken of the area that Billups complained about for possible action.

Billups complaints aren’t new and stretch over a couple of years.  She has pushed hard for some type of city action to improve the neighborhood where she lives.  Her appearance at the council’s last meeting was another in a series of protests before the council.  This time she was sharper in her criticisms and her frustration was more visible.
