US 2 Tumwater Canyon closure extended 24 hours

Last updated 9/12/2013 at 4:48pm

LEAVENWORTH – Unstable soil and other construction challenges have pushed the week-long closure of Tumwater Canyon, west of Leavenworth to a week and a day. Instead of Fri. at noon, US 2 will reopen at noon on Sat., Sept. 14.

15 miles of US 2 between Leavenworth and State Route 207 at Coles Corner was closed to replace the Drury Canyon Creek Bridge in Tumwater Canyon. The closure started at 8 p.m. Sept.8.

For passenger vehicles there is a signed detour around the Canyon through the Chumstick Valley using SR 207 and county roads adding about 15 minutes to the trip. That route isn’t suitable for vehicles over 28,000 pounds or longer than 30 feet, and they must detour to I-90, Snoqualmie Pass and US 97, Blewett Pass.
