Sheriff: Mind your driving habits in Coulee City

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office will conduct emphasis traffic enforcement patrols in the Coulee City area in the coming days.

Coulee City Mayor Rick Heiberg is concerned with the growing number of traffic violations he is seeing in town. Since the GCSO is the contract law enforcement agency for the town of Coulee City, Mayor Heiberg has requested the Sheriff's Office provide an increased presence and enforcement for violations including excessive speed and failure to stop at stops signs. The Sheriff’s Office will also be looking for other traffic violations including motorists not wearing their seatbelts, children not restrained in car seats, and drivers talking or texting on their phones while driving.

The Sheriff’s Office is providing this notice to educate and influence the motoring public to comply with traffic laws. However, if a motorist is stopped for a violation, deputies will act through enforcement by issuing a notice of infraction or a citation.

The overreaching goal of GCSO's traffic safety efforts is to reduce injuries and deaths on Grant County roadways.
