Fire fighters got it right
In an area often derided by its own citizens for not sticking together, it’s amazing how quickly and efficiently one very important part of the local infrastructure can congeal into an effective team.
Several local fire departments attacked a fire Sunday night so quickly that, despite high heat and a freakish wind, a wildfire did not consume several local homes.
From a vantage point across the river at Washington Flats, the fire could be seen as a wall of relentless flame driven by high winds. Tiny people squirting a little water or piloting a small dozer (compared to the flames) just didn’t look up to the task of saving the community.
But they did. East Coulee Dam was directly in the path of the inferno.
A repeat performance was needed the next night a couple of miles north of the first.
All the firefighters from the multiple agencies responding should take pride in their efforts this week.
So don’t let anyone tell you this community can’t come together when it’s needed. We can and they did. Thanks.
