The new Keller ferry, The Sanpoil, is out of its protective cocoon and is in the final stages of getting ready for its launch. Workers at the Crescent Bay assembly site said launch could be within two weeks.

The National Park Service issued a press release saying the parking area at the boat launch would be closed from 5 p.m. July 9 through July 10 for the planned launch. Boaters can launch boats at Spring Canyon during that time.

The ferry has been under construction since its arrival, in pieces, in March of this year.

The Sanpoil will replace the Martha S which has been in service since 1948 connecting State Route 21 across Lake Roosevelt.

The Martha S will be taken out of service July 8, so contractors can re-fit the landing docks on both sides of Lake Roosevelt. The Sanpoil will undergo testing as soon as it is launched and will be dedicated in special ceremonies Aug. 14.
