Enjoy the 4th at home in the coulee

You can enjoy all the traditional activity of the 4th of July by just staying home.

The coulee community will see three days of fun and excitement.

Activity begins Thursday, July 4, and extends through Saturday, July 6.

On the 4th, the Festival of America, the nameplate of the celebration, kicks off in the park below the Visitor Center.

Those attending may be lucky and enjoy the cooling influence of water being released over Grand Coulee Dam. As of last Friday the spill was predicted to last through this week. We’ll just have to wait to see if the flow of water requires it.

There will be food booths, craft booths, music, and that leads up to the Laser Light Show late in the evening.

The booths open each day at 11 a.m. and are open until 9:30 p.m.

Music begins Thursday at 3 p.m. with Dam Kids, then Kayla Newland taking center stage at 5. At 6:30 you can hear the music of Raggs Gustaffe, and at 8:15, Elvis impersonator Steve Sogura is back in his eighth appearance in the coulee.

The grand finale, just after the Laser Light Show, is fireworks from the top of the dam.

Friday the music begins in the park at 6:30 with Kathy Boyd & Phoenix Rising on the stage.

Then at 8:15, Elvis makes another appearance.

On Saturday there are a number of family-type games and activities beginning at 10 a.m ., and lasting until 2. Activities include a baseball blast batting booth, a bungee run and joust combo, a dunk tank, world sports games, a dolphin slide, pie eating contest, and a castle bounce house.

Music on Saturday features The Cruizers, who will perform from 6-9:30.

Bring a blanket, chairs, and plenty of sunscreen for a good old fashioned July 4 celebration.

A special section on the event published in last week’s Star and Star Buyer’s Guide will be available at the chamber of commerce booth in the park. It’s also reachable reachable here: http://ow.ly/mBPgq
