LR Babe Ruth started their summer season last week as they took on Omak May 14 for a single game at Greene Field.
Jacob Palmer had the only base bit for LR, as Omak went on to win in six innings, 13-3.
Coach Jeremy Miller said many of the middle school-age players showed signs of first game jitters.
This wore off quickly as on the 18th when LR hosted Chelan for a doubleheader. In the first game Chelan jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the third. LR came back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs to knot the game up at two apiece.
After holding the Goats scoreless in the top of the seventh, LR sealed the win with the go ahead run scored by Chance Garvin. Devan Black picked up the win, as in three innings on the mound he gave up no runs and struck out five Goats.
Bubba Garcia was one for one at the plate with three stolen bases and a scored run in the first game. Michael Reyes went two for two with a steal and a run batted in in the sixth. Reese Caddy was 2 of 3, including an RBI that tied the game at 2-all in the bottom of the sixth.
In the second game Chelan again pulled out to an early lead, scoring a run in the tops of the second, third, and fourth innings.
Tyrell Kiser started on the mound for LR and pitched three innings, giving up only one earned run and striking out six Goats.
Michael Reyes came in for one inning, giving up one earned run and a had a strikeout.
Garcia was the next LR pitcher taking the mound for three innings, striking out two Goats.
Black and Caddy pitched the eighth and ninth innings before the game was declared a tie by agreement of both teams.
Jacob Palmer went one for three at the plate, scoring a run on a throwing error in the fifth inning and driving in Black and Quincy Williams by singling into center field in the seventh inning to tie the game at three.
“First big league field game for the 13- and14-year-olds,” Miller noted. “They were really nervous, but got some good experience that showed itself in our doubleheader against Chelan last weekend.”
