Raiders improve at Ray Cross

LR track travelled to Ephrata to take part in the 40th annual Ray Cross Invitational last Saturday, where several managed to improve personal records while competing against bigger schools.

Chyenne Kelly-Marconi shone as she grabbed PRs in all of her events. Kelly-Marconi placed in both the long jump and triple jump, taking eighth with season PR jumps of 14 feet, 8 inches and 31-5. In the 100-meter hurdles, she improved her time by 0.24 seconds over West Valley to finish with a 19.61-second race. In the 400 sprint, Kelly-Marconi made a huge jump in her time, finishing with a career PR of 71.64 seconds, which is 6.4 seconds faster than the week before.

Sean Waters also set season PRs in all three events he competed in on Saturday. In the shot put he improved by 3.75 inches to finish 11th with a throw of 40 feet, 5.75 inches. Waters placed seventh in the discus with a season PR of 123-1, that was an improvement of 4-4 over West Valley. In javelin, Waters threw 89-6 in his first time competing in the event for the season.

Samantha Turner made a big breakthrough in the shot throwing a career PR of 27-2, a foot-and-a-half improvement over her previous PR. Turner PR’d in the javelin at a 68-0, 2.5 feet better than her previous career best. In the discus, Turner improved by three inches from West Valley, throwing 70-7.

Zachary Erickson continues to improve by leaps and bounds as he ran for a career and meet PR on Saturday. In the 800, Erickson ran two minutes, 53.44 seconds. In the 1600, he gained a meet PR in 6:16.96, cutting a minute and two seconds off last year’s time at Ray Cross.

Mikel Friedlander improved her times from the week before in both events she ran. In the 100 Friedlander took off .19 seconds off her time to finish 16.21 seconds. In the 400, Friedlander cut off 2.5 seconds from West Valley to finish with a 74.92. Mary Ann Matheson improved in her 800 race, finishing 18.2 seconds faster than at West Valley in 3:16.4. Alaynah Herman ran a much quicker 1600 at Ephrata, cutting off 39 seconds to finish in 7:09.9.

Tyler Agosto improved in the 200 with a 30.93 run. In the shot, he reached a career PR cutting 2-2.45 off West Valley, with a throw of 33-4.5.

Josh Wilder made his high school debut at Ephrata, throwing the javelin 78-4.

Coltin Williams also debuted, running the 200 and the 400 in times of 28.28 and 63.11.

Eren Moon opened her 2013 shot put throwing season, throwing 28-0. In the discus, Moon improved by 2-2 from West Valley, throwing 74-8. Clare Castrodale ran the 800 at Ephrata, finishing in 3:47.9.

Alexa Hanway made her high school track debut. The ran the 1600 in 6:59.5 and the 3200 in 14:32.83.

Raider track travels to Oroville Saturday for the Eagle Home Mortgage Invitational, starting at 11:30 a.m. Central Washington North 2B and 1B squads will be present in force, with some Panorama schools (Republic, Northport, and Curlew) making up most of the field. Local Caribou Trail League schools will also be present (Okanogan, Omak, and Tonasket) with the most distant squad coming from Cascade.
