Jet crashes

near

Harrington

Coulee residents are used to frequent low flights of military jets through the area, but not to the tragedy that occurred Monday morning when one of them crashed, killing all three on board.

On a training mission, the crew out of the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station died instantly as their EA-6B Prowler cratered a field near Harrington.

“This was a very difficult day for our local volunteers, my office and more importantly, our military families,” Lincoln County Sheriff Wade Magers said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Navy crewmen and their families.”

Prowler jets are used in electronic warfare, flying low and fast to destroy or jam enemy radar. The training flights out of Whidbey keep them ready for such missions.

The spring clean-up week when you can dump garden and lawn waste free is April 6-13.

Each town and city has different rules. Check with your respective city halls for details.
