Mayors back up on schedule change

The Regional Board of Mayors quickly reversed themselves Monday and went back to monthly meetings when it was pointed out that they had acted illegally the month before.

In February, the mayors had voted to change their meetings from once a month to once every two months. This week they voted to return to monthly meetings until they get the change right.

Coulee Dam Town Clerk Carol Visker pointed out that before the mayors can change their meeting dates, they must go to their councils for approval and then amend their agreement on meetings.

So it’s back to the rounds of city council meetings to get approval from the councils. Then the mayors’ attorney will have to write up the amendment, which will also then have to make the rounds to city councils for approval.

Sometime in the near future, if all goes as planned, the mayors will meet on an every-other-month schedule

The decision last month to change the meetings, Visker pointed out, violates the agreement between the four towns on how mayors should meet.

The process of going before their respective councils could take a couple of months. Meanwhile the RBOM meets on the second Tuesday of the month, at 4 p.m., at Electric City’s council chambers.
