Vets board

to meet

The Grant County Veterans Advisory Board will meet March 7 at 4 p.m. at the Grant County Courthouse Commissioners’ Meeting Room.

The advisory board administers the Grant County Veterans Emergency Assistance Fund and assists veterans with obtaining benefits through the Veterans Administration.

Members of the board are from the local veteran service agencies throughout Grant County.

The meeting is open to the public.

Roof fix

The roof over the police department’s records area in Grand Coulee will be fixed by Coulee Construction of Grand Coulee. The firm’s $1,375.73 bid has been accepted. The leaky roof contributed to moldy police reports where water worked its way into records storage boxes.

Big permit fee

The Town of Coulee Dam received a check for $147,000 from the Grand Coulee Dam School District for building permits relating to the proposed new K-12 school near the site where the old Wright Elementary School was located. Work is expected to begin on the project in late spring.

Senior show and tell time coming

Lake Roosevelt High School senior projects will be presented March 13-14 at the Village Cinema Theater. Presentations begin each day at 8:30 a.m. and last until 12 noon.

Tribal members

plan rally

Members of the Colville Confederated Tribes who disagree with their elected representatives’ decision on how much of a government settlement to pay directly to members plan to rally in the East Omak park Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. They plan to make it easy to sign any of 14 recall petitions, one for each Colville Business Council member, with a drive-up petition area. The group says they were “robbed” of money they view as an “inheritance” since it was paid by the U.S. government in settlement for decades of alleged mismanagement of tribal assets the government held in trust.

Enrollment in Grand Coulee Dam District schools averaged 619.88 full-time students during the month of February, according to a school board report. The district budgeted an average of 610 students for the school year. To date, the average is 620. Last school year’s average student count was 628.

$10k boost

for ESD

The cost of business manager services at Grand Coulee Dam School District now being handled by North Central Educational Service District 171, has been increased by board action Monday night from $50,000 a year to $60,000 a year, reflecting the added duties represented in the K-12 school building project.

Feb. 6, Kelly Buche and Peggy Nevsimal presented dictionaries from the Rotary Club to all the third graders at Center Elementary School, as part of the club’s Dictionary Project to promote literacy.
