Russell Powers has been named deputy city clerk in Electric City.

Powers replaces Debra Pifer, who recently resigned from the position.

Powers has been working at the Delano Regional Transfer Station and took over his new position Feb. 1.

Joanne Davidson is the new auditor/bookkeeper for Grant County Port District 7. She replaces long-time port district auditor Kary Byam. Davidson retired from Gerard Building Company two years ago and is an Electric City resident.

There will be a “cleansing” ceremony at the Nez Perce longhouse site near Nespelem at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. Tribal members are currently working with insurance officials to come up with a plan to rebuild the longhouse, which was destroyed in an early morning fire Dec. 26.

The local chapter of American Red Cross will hold a meeting Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Vets Center in Electric City from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., concerning volunteering. Scores of local residents throughout central Washington have volunteered for the past 100 years in such life saving areas as CPR, first aid and educating the public about preventing and preparing for emergencies, the agency says. People are encouraged to join the current volunteers and new volunteers as they talk about the needs of the community and how you can make as difference.

gets grant

Lincoln County Fire District 9 received word this week that it has received a $30,000 matching grant from the state Department of Natural Resources to equip a 6x6 surplus military truck it received last year for use in the district. The matching grant will enable the district to equip the truck with foam and hoses. The truck will be housed in the middle of the district for quick response and should help reduce insurance costs for residents, a spokesperson stated.
