Ten Years Ago

A plan to help fish by changing the way dams in Montana are run will leave Banks Lake 10 feet lower in August, possibly affecting tourism. The Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation will put the plan they call VARQ into motion this year as an interim measure to satisfy a “biological opinion” of another federal agency. It could become permanent later.

Kyle Desautel recently received his Masters of Business Administration from Easter Washington University.

Lake Roosevelt girls claimed two close victories against Freeman and Wilbur/Creston last weekend. The Lady Raiders beat Freeman 53-48 and defeated Wilbur/Creston 52-46.

The Raider wrestlers didn’t take any individual titles, but a flurry of second through fourth places propelled them to the bronze medal at the Warden Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Twenty Years Ago

Digging out was the mission for area folks this past week as snow continued to pile up in eastern Washington.

Lake Roosevelt wrestlers will be on the road again this week continuing the team’s winter travel odyssey.

If practice time is the remedy for the Lake Roosevelt boys’ basketball team, then the Raiders have a full prescription. They defeated Okanogan 73 to 47.

Winds that closed roads last week sculpted graceful drifts after plows opened the roads back up.

Gary Reit, owner of the Coulee House Motel, has his own way of coping with winter weather by putting a cowboy buried bottoms up in front of the motel.

Thirty Years Ago

Even though area residents are getting just a tad bit tired of the snow there are many snow scenes in the area that are quite beautiful.

Dennis Thomas, a 25 year resident and graduate of Grand Coulee High School, has accepted the chairmanship of the citizen school levy committee.

During the Christmas vacation the Lake Roosevelt Raiders girls basketball team hosted the team from Northwest Christian and sent it home with a loss of 52 to 37. High point for the Raiders was Shawnee Haugen with 17.

Forty Years Ago

Twenty-seven years of service with the Highway Department was the occasion for a party honoring Arnold Waterman of Electric City.

Airman Duane L. Brownfield, son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Brownfield of Nespelem, has been assigned to Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas.

Fifty Years Ago

Dr. C.E. Poleax, executive of the Washington and Alaska Synods of Presbyterian Churches will deliver the service at the Coulee Dam Community Church.

Elizabeth A. Glick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Glick, has begun her student teaching at the Glover Junior High School in Spokane.

Sixty Years Ago

The annual watch night service in charge of the Community Church will continue until Jan. 6.
