Front page photo titled “What’s Up Dock?” caption says: National Park Service employees rescue the swamped dock at Crescent Bay boat launch early Monday morning after Lake Roosevelt rose over the weekend.

An Electric City council member questions the fairness of a draft agreement for the sharing of water between Grand Coulee and Electric City. Council member Bob Rupe said the contract contained, “an overabundance of language that needs clarification in some cases.” He said some of the language is too broad and other parts need attributions.

A Nespelem boy fought his way to a spot in a large boxing tournament in Montana with a victory in his age and weight bracket. Eleven-year-old Johnny Drywater, of the Colville Inter-Tribal Boxing Club, defeated Elias Ochoa in the 85-pound Silver Gloves championship. The Championship was held at the Lake Roosevelt High School gym on Dec. 7.

Twenty Years Ago

Despite objections by three citizens, the Coulee Dam Town Council passed a 1993 budget last week that includes no funding for the town’s swimming pool. The council acknowledged in discussion, however, that opening the pool could be reconsidered if some citizens group could solve problems associated with operating the pool.

Area residents are invited to witness the living Nativity on Dec. 18, 19 and 20 at the Mini Golf Course in Grand Coulee. The spiritual Christmas scene will be presented by River of Life Assembly of God Church.

Thirty Years Ago

One week of hard practice gave the Raider Roundballers a chance to confront their weak spots from previous games. Against Republic the varsity lost 73 to 41. High scorer for the Raiders was Ken Kuiper with 15 points.

Seaton’s Grove Greenhouse held its annual open house this past week with a variety of original arrangements.

A large motor home crashed Sunday at noon as it came off the highway bridge in Coulee Dam, west bound. Gerald I. Robinson of Spokane was driving when he failed to make the sharp 90 degree turn on Columbia Street.

Forty Years Ago

Marine Pft. Thomas Sqauetimkin son, of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Sqauetimkin of Grand Coulee, has graduated from Basic Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.

Barbara Ann Brackett, Coulee Dam, has been named Miss Farmers Insurance Group of Coulee Dam at the local level of the contest.

Fifty Years Ago

In Coulee Dam, Charles Wendt, Elmer Tombre, Bill Miller, Jim England, Al Kelso and M. L. Bennett were out cutting Christmas trees to decorate in the city.

In Grand Coulee, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Evans had just returned from a 9,000 mile trip during which they visited 13 states.

In Elmer City, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thomas of Harrington visited his sister and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Bud Ricks.

In Nespelem, the city teenagers were sponsoring a public Christmas tree and asking for donations for the community children.

Sixty Years Ago

Dave Rawe, chairman of the Grand Coulee School District, Don Leaton, Clerk of the Board, and Lyman Stamper, Superintendent of Schools, are attending the Washington State Association of School Board Directors meeting at Bellingham.

On Monday evening the Lady Lions met at the home of Mrs. Cliff Carlson.
