The best young boxers, from all over the state will make the trip to Coulee Dam this weekend to compete in a boxing tournament at Lake Roosevelt High School.

A new full-time police officer should make attending schools in the Grand Coulee Dam School District safer for students. School Resource Officer Joseph Lauseng said his number-one job is life and protection but he also wants to improve the relationship between students and police.

NESPELEM SCHOOL HONORS STUDENTS - The following who achieved the A honor roll for first quarter included 4th grade - Jesse Ives; 5th grade - Laweesa Anthony, Moyatat Bart; 6th grade - Daniqua Stensgar, Janessa Morin, Amelia McClung; 7th grade - Saul Joseph, Kasandra Norton.

A local woman spends much of her week helping seniors in the Grand Coulee Dam area, Coulee City and Lincoln County eat a healthy diet. Jeannie Sanford runs the Senior Meals Program, which works in conjunction with the Grand Coulee Dam Area Senior Center and senior center in Coulee City to send food and supplies for the members.

An old tavern in Grand Coulee may burn following a summary judgement hearing before Grant County Superior Court Judge Evan Sperline yesterday.

Coulee Dam residents and businesses will pay 10 percent more for electricity and sewer service if the town council adopts the budget proposed for 1993. There is also a chance that the town pool will have to close.

Grant County PUD crews have been busy along Midway Ave. replacing the old green wooden poles which have become quite familiar to area residents. New lightweight aluminum poles and standards have been installed.

Winners in the Education Week Poster Contest were Shannon Tracy, Jean Nelson, Holly Campbell, Kathy Regruto, Todd Corrigan, Roni Gross, Tim Tueth, Caleb Stream, Lyle Niva and Kim Campbell.

A. James Harris, DDS will be opening his practice of family dentistry at 304 6th Street in Coulee Dam.

Martha Knight, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Knight of Elmer City, is on a two-month tour of Europe.

Wendell George from the Colville Indian Agency will speak to the Coulee Dam Chamber at the next meeting Dec. 11.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pachosa celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Friday. The celebration was arranged by their children Jack A. Pachosa, Janice Avey, and Debbie and John Pachosa.

Fifty Years Ago

Last Tuesday’s heavy blow did considerable damage to the wall of the new fire station in Grand Coulee. Even though the wall was braced, a tremendous gust of wind caused its collapse.

The Almira Grain Growers Inc. held their annual meeting with election of new officers. They include H.P. Carstensen, president; M.J. Nansen, vice president; Paul Tubbs, secretary/treasurer.

Mayor Otis Tillman of Elmer City announces the appointment of Clarence E. Carter as mashal for Elmer City.

The Grand Coulee Volunteer Fire Departmentís annual Firemenís Ball will be held at the Grand Coulee Club.

A large barn on the Peter Dan Moss place in Nespelem was destroyed by fire Nov. 5. The cause of the blaze is undetermined. Frank Seaton lost 15 tons of hay.
