The city council in Grand Coulee last week approved a resolution raising the amount it can collect in property tax by 1 percent from the year before. That increased the total amount the city can collect by $817 from its current levy of $81,665 for a total $82,482.

Patriotic songs, a military drill team and a medal presentation highlighted a ceremony for veterans at the Nespelem Community Center Friday.

A Grand Coulee couple barely escaped Thursday when a fire broke out in their home while they were sleeping. Grand Coulee Volunteer Fire Dept. Chief Rick Paris said Michael and Beverly Anglin both received bad cuts when they had to leave their 212 Bowen Ave. home by breaking a window in the bedroom.

The Raider cross country boys’ team finished third in district.

The prime contractor at the Grand Coulee Third Powerplant and Forebay Dam will resume full-scale operations starting with the day shift Nov. 16.

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Granger and daughter Mrs. Mary Lou Larson drove to Ellensburg to watch the football game between Central Washington State and Eastern Oregon State.

Fifty Years Ago

In Coulee Dam, the President PTA presented a Dad’s night program. The theme was “Trip to Toyland” and hostesses were Ann Zowada, Madge Eggleston, Elna Zimmerman and Ruby Harvey.

The Grand Coulee winners of the Punt, Pass and Kick contest included: James David, Mike Pierce, Mike Zowada, Steve Alling and John Avey.

Sixty Years Ago

Mrs. Virgil Keisz of Grand Coulee is the new treasurer of the Grand Coulee Dam Concert Association.

Jeanne Rauch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rauch, held a slumber party last Friday at her home.

Four new tennis courts have been completed by the USBR and now are ready for use by the Coulee Dam High School students.
