Fire forced three families in an Elmer City home to find new shelter Monday night after a candle started a blaze in the house they shared. Candles were in use because the electricity had been shut off earlier in the day.
The Colville Confederated Tribes unable to get the governor’s consent for a gambling compact it negotiated with the state, plans to take the matter to court.
The fate of gas station in Coulee Dam that leaked fuel into the ground is uncertain according to one of its owners.

The Star Newspaper will be holding a public open house at their new location on Midway Avenue, Oct. 28.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur E. Graff of Coulee Dam are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Jerene, to Stephen H. Rogers. A Nov. 27 wedding is planned.
Danny Wiyrick, age 12, shot a six-point mule deer this past week. The deer wsa shot in the Delrio area and was Wiyrick’s first deer.
The Raider Football team defeated Oroville 21-6 in their homecoming game.

Margaret Holmes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gunnar L. Holmes won a typing award in an assembly.
Grand Coulee overpowered Bridgeport 20-12 in football here Friday night. Rick McClain scored the clinching touchdown.

H.J. Miller, George Thallheimer, R.R. McClure, Clarence Rose, Albert Carlson and L.L. Davis drove to Salt Lake City to attend a regional meeting of the REA.
Earle D. “Dusty” Rhodes, diamond drill specialist for the Bureau of Reclamation of the Columbia Basin Project received notice from Washington, D.C., that he has been granted letters of patent covering a method of subetrranean survey of a number of water-bearing strata from one drill hole.
Mr. and Mrs. William Pendell of the Rex area are now residents of Koontzville. They are now living inthe Walter Goman house.
