More equipment for kids would be better than carvings

Letters to the Editor

I am writing this letter in regards to the article of “Big Wood Carvings Proposed!” They are willing to pay $12,000 for these stumps (at Coulee Dam Park!) to be carved into animals? What I don’t understand is children who are the majority that spend time there and play. Play on what? Really, I can honestly say we do not have any new up-to-date equipment in any of our parks for goodness sakes. For instance… we have no pool, they covered it with cement. All parents can’t take their kids to the beach. Smaller towns than us have better parks and pools, they even have a community center.

In my opinion there is hardly anything joyful for our kids to do. They are our generation! Then people wonder why there is so much violence, crimes, drugs in our small town? Yeah we are a tourist attraction but what about us ? What about the children? I just feel that if they are going to pay that much for carvings why couldn’t they save that and apply for grants to put a few water toys up at the park or a little more equipment?

I don’t understand.
