Raider runners Kendall Piccolo and Alexia Hanway led the Raiders at the Erik Anderson/Runner’s Soul Invitational last Saturday.
Piccolo finished with a time of 20 minutes, 23.04 seconds for the top spot on the Raider boys’ squad. Hanway led the the Raider girls with the time of 25:10.3.
The meet featured nearly 200 runners per race. High school competion came from both large schools and small schools, including 3A/4A Greater Spokane League, 2A Great Northern Leauge, Northeast A and Caribou Trail League, and from small schools like Lake Roosevelt and others fielding B teams from the Bi-County, Panorama, and Whitman County leagues.
Right behind Piccolo was freshman Lukas Hermetz who ran an impressive race, finishing in 20:31.73.
The next two Raiders across the finish in the boys race were sophomores Oscar Pakootas and Daniel Loch in 22:11.06 and 22:21.22, respectively. Brandin Smith took home the time of 23:22.47 for the day. Zach Erickson had a career PR for the 5,000-meter distance with the time of 23:59.45. Freshman Robert George rounded out the Raider boys’ squad for Saturday, finishing in 25:13.4.
On the girls’ side, Rickyna Sam finished second for the Raiders in 27:22.88. Amanda Palmer cut 90 seconds off last week’s time, finishing at 28:34.04. Mary Ann Matheson ran her first race of the season Saturday, finishing with the time of 29:05.06. Keya Fasthorse finished behind Matheson with the time of 29:50.51. Clare Castrodale trimmed 30 seconds off her time from last week to round out the Raider girls’ squad in 30:36.89.
The Raider runners are now preparing for the CAN-AM Invite this Saturday at Kettle Falls. Races will start at 10:30 a.m.
The CAN-AM will feature a mostly 1A, B school field with Colville and Timberlake High School from Idaho being the only 2A schools there.
