Garrett Jess,

partner

win roping title

Garrett Jess and his roping partner Clayton Hansen won the Northwest Professional Rodeo Association’s award as “Ropers of the Year.”

The two competed at Prineville, Ore., this last weekend winning first place with times of 6.7 and 5.5 seconds. The top time won the pair $4,300.

In addition to taking the roping honors, Garrett’s two-year old horse “Scarlett” won roping horse of the year in the NWPRA.

It’s the second time that Jess has won the roping honors. He did so also in 2010.

Jess is an employee at Jess Ford in Grand Coulee, and his father, Wade Jess, had a long career as a roper in the NWPRA.

City on top

of current

ambulance billings

Grand Coulee has collected over $84,000 in the past 12 months through its ambulance billings, the city council learned at its last meeting.

Of billings of $155,895, some $30,000 was disallowed, $8,300 uncollected and $32,000 was pending.

The city started using a third party billing firm nearly two years ago and old billings were caught up and current billings are going out on time, the report stated.

The disallowed portion of the billings is the difference between what was billed and what insurance companies agree to pay.

Transfer station

closes

for two days

The Delano Regional Transfer Station will be closed Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, for needed repairs.

Local residents will be unable to dump materials during those two days, officials stated.

Grand Coulee

surpluses

two police

vehicles

Grand Coulee’s council surplused two police vehicles at its meeting last Tuesday night.

One was a patrol car that was made unusable by an interior fire from an electrical short.

The city will receive money for the vehicle and equipment through its insurance. The second was the pickup truck patrol vehicle used with the department’s K-9 bomb dog program. That program funded by the federal government was terminated Aug. 31. That pickup truck went to the Grand Coulee Fire Department.
