You didn’t train, but still want to take part in the Grand Columbian Triathlon this Saturday? You can; become a volunteer.

Those competing will tell you how important volunteers are and how they appreciate them.

There’s still time to register as a volunteer. All you have to do is visit the following website: volunteer@trifreaks.com - you can register there.

Also, a volunteer meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Pepper Jack’s Bar & Grille in Grand Coulee. Attend the meeting, register as a volunteer, and learn of the many ways you can help.

Volunteers do a variety of jobs, all essential for the success of the event, said Dana Barkdull, event coordinator.

“Volunteers help make adventure races possible for athletes to compete in a fun, safe, and organized way,” Barkdull stated.

Some of the things volunteer do include: Course setup and takedown; registration (record racer information); headquarters coordination, manning checkpoints; timing; serving refreshments; mandatory gear checks and emergency medical assistance (for those fully trained).

Volunteers will receive a t-shirt, be fed, “and earn the respect and gratitude of the racers,” Barkdull stated.
