It’s time to replenish the “Care and Share” Food Bank.

Director Fern Blaylock said last week that the food bank is open only two times a month now instead of every week because of limited food supplies.

The food bank currently regularly serves 120 families.

One business is trying to do something to help.

Last week the Coulee Dam Federal Credit Union announced that it will kick off a food-and-money donation campaign to help the food bank on Aug. 29, and continue taking donations through Sept. 14.

Bring your canned food items, or a check, to the credit union in Coulee Dam any time during the campaign and help stock up the larders at the food bank, Sheryl Moore says.

Blaylock said stores work their way down this time of the year just before the many different drives for food start up; however, this year the shelves are unusually bare.

The food bank is now open on the second and fourth Mondays at its Church of the Nazarene location on the highway to Wilbur.

People can also take their donated food items directly to the food bank from noon on during the Mondays they are open. Or “they can call me,” Blaylock said, and she would be happy to meet them there.

In addition to food, Blaylock says, there is a great need for volunteers. “We need people to help out,” she said last Tuesday. If you can only volunteer a few hours, it would help a lot, Blaylock noted.

The campaign for food or funds at the Coulee Dam Credit Union, 315 Columbia Ave., Coulee Dam, kicks off today.
