Robert Dzurich stands in the eating area of his new restaurant, The Tropical Pig, in Electric City. He plans to open within the next few days after final inspections are complete.

The Tropical Pig, a new eatery in Electric City, will open within the next few days.

Owner Robert Dzurich has taken a small space, formerly housing a t-shirt shop, and turned it into a colorful and spacey restaurant.

Dzurich said the business will be largely “take-out” but that there will be some tables for those wishing to eat on premises.

The Tropical Pig features barbecue-style food, including baby back ribs, and all the trimmings that go with it. Prices will range from $7.95 for hot sandwiches to $23.95 for baby back rib dinners.

The firm will feature a Caesar salad for $6.95.

“I wanted to develop a place where young people could go and feel welcome,” Dzurich said.

The eatery will also feature ice cream products, smoothies, slushies and a bubble tea frost.

The Tropical Pig will offer 24 flavors of ice cream and will be the first in the area to serve the bubble tea frost, a drink that has gained acceptance in Korea and Hawaii and just recently found its way to mainland malls.

Dzurich who has been in construction for the past few years, said he has always had his eyes on the Grand Coulee Dam area to put in an eatery.

He worked for a few years with the city of Grand Coulee keeping up North Dam Park, and recently had a similar restaurant operation in Snohomish. It was while he worked at North Dam Park that he set his eyes on the Grand Coulee Dam area for an eatery.

Dzurich first had to strip the building, located next to the Electric City Bar and Grill, and put in two restrooms and a kitchen area. A rust red wall and other bright colors await customers.

The public area is roomy and the entire operation only takes up about half of the building’s 3,000 square feet.
