Three local students who participated in Big Bend Community College’s General Education Development (GED) Preparation program reached their goal of earning GED certificates during the 2011-12 academic year.

Receiving their GED certificates during the 2011-12 year were Melissa Boord of Electric City and Kaylynn Grunlose Batten, and Nancy Bolyard, both of Coulee Dam. Eight additional students in the Grand Coulee Dam area who are actively participating in the local preparation classes have completed portions of the five-part GED battery that tests proficiency in math, reading, science, social studies, and writing.

Adult Basic Education/GED preparation classes are sponsored locally by Big Bend Community College and hosted by the Grand Coulee Dam Middle School where traditional and online classes are held throughout the school year. During the summer, a condensed online/lab class with on-site instructor support is available at the Middle School . Students who successfully complete the battery of GED exams are issued a GED certificate which is generally accepted in lieu of a high school diploma for admittance to community colleges and in the workplace. Students interested in the current summer online class or who wish to pre-register for fall quarter may contact Linda Black at 633-3611 or lblack_ged@yahoo.com
