Top of North Dam OK for

fireworks

Local residents can set their fireworks off July 4, at North Dam Park, a Bureau of Reclamation official said this week.

Public Affairs Officer Lynne Brougher said that the BOR is encouraging those who set their fireworks off on North Dam Park to clean up their debris. In past years the Bureau has had to have its maintenance people go up and clean up the debris left behind.

Brougher also stated that people should point their fireworks toward the lake to help eliminate grass fires near the dam.

Help needed

with stage

The Festival of America’s music program needs some volunteers for stage and lighting work.

Volunteers can help professionals assemble the stage and lighting at 10:30 a.m. July 3 and disassemble it at 10:30 a.m. on July 5.

Coulee Dam has sponsored the music festival portion of the July 4 celebration in recent years and Mayor Quincy Snow promises a lively range of musicians for the July 3 and 4 musical portion of the big event.

Volunteers can call him at home, 633-2798, and leave a message.

The music performances will be held in the park below the Visitor Center at Grand Coulee Dam.

Time capsule

Any local resident who knows anything about two time capsules near the Wright Elementary School flagpole area are asked to get in touch with Superintendent Dennis Carlson, at 633-2143.

Carlson, who has been here just two years, said Monday that he heard that time capsules had been placed at Wright Elementary School in 1976 during the nation’s bicentennial and in 1989, during Washington state’s centennial celebration.

Wright Elementary is scheduled to go under the wrecking ball sometime this summer and Carlson wants to make sure that the capsules, if there, are preserved.

Grant PUD top exec on

administrative leave

Grant PUD Commissioners last week placed utility General Manager Tim Culbertson on a two-week administrative leave, pending the review of personnel related issues, the PUD said.

“The issues under review are personnel in nature and unrelated to the utility’s finances or operations,” said Commission President Tom Flint. “We will not provide additional information until the review is complete.”

Effective immediately, assistant general managers Chuck Berrie and Anthony Webb will co-manage utility operations.
