Recently my cousin and I were traveling on vacation and passed through your community. We were only a few miles from your town when our small motor home developed a rather serious mechanical problem. Of course, where it happened there was no cell service to call for help. That is when our true adventure began.

We were partially blocking the two-lane highway headed up toward Wilbur. Within a very few minutes, folks started stopping to offer assistance. Two good Samaritans headed in opposite directions offered to call for a tow truck. One very kind young man pulled out a tow strap and towed us out of the road to a better spot where we could wait safely for help. A state policeman arrived all the way from the Spokane area.

Soon, the tow truck from Tim's Towing arrived to load us up and haul us back to town. We can't say enough good things about the whole crew at Tim's. We were treated with such kindness and generosity. Since this happened on a Saturday afternoon nothing could be done till Monday, and we spent the weekend … and the next three days … in the parking lot. When the part arrived, it was installed much quicker than we anticipated and we were on the road Wednesday afternoon.

We passed some of our time in town walking around. We visited most of the stores that were open, stopped in the Chamber office and were given some great information. The library was warm and inviting and we were grateful to have the use of wifi. The ladies at the senior center invited us to play cards with them. Dinner at the Eagles was delicious. Fuller & Sons Rental was kind enough to accommodate us with a rental car for a few hours with no previous reservation and that enabled us to sightsee a bit further than walking.

What a great community you live in. We want to say THANK YOU to all of you! Your kindness and friendliness to two stranded women meant more to us than you can ever know!

Molly & MaryAnn

Sandy, Ore.
