Man dies in

ATV accident

A 64-year-old Mansfield man died Monday when the four-wheel all-terrain vehicle he was driving overturned on top of him 300 yards from his home about 1 p.m.

Rhett J. Wall suffered internal injuries when the 2009 Honda TRX500 lost traction as he was headed up a slope. It rolled backwards, landing on top of him as it rolled over before it ended up another 44 yards away, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Mansfield Ambulance took Wall to Lake Chelan Community Hospital, where he died.

Budget hearing for schools slated

The Grand Coulee Dam School District will hold a public hearing on the next school year’s budget at the beginning of the board’s regularly scheduled meeting, Monday, June 25, at 6 p.m.

The public will have the opportunity for input. At the meeting, the board will revise/adopt the budget. The budget proposal can be reviewed at the school district administrative office in Coulee Dam anytime prior to the meeting.

A lighter moment

City council meetings are not always serious affairs. Grand Coulee Councilmember David Tylor, at the end of last week’s meeting asked Mayor Chris Christopherson if he could get some drier weather because his tomatoes were not doing well. The mayor referred it to the sewer committee.

Volunteer fire

department full

Grand Coulee Volunteer Fire Chief Rick Paris told the council that he now has a full contingent of volunteers, 30 in number, and possibly some on the waiting list. He said that in all his years on the fire department it is the first time that the department has had 30 firefighters and some on the waiting list.

High-grading

for the city

The Grand Coulee City Council gave public works director Dennis Francis the go-ahead to find someone to purchase the brass parts of water meters being replaced in the city. City workers will dismantle the meters and recover brass parts and the city will sell to the best source.

Home fair to

be offered

The Colville Indian Housing Authority will have its 6th Annual Home Fair, Thursday, June 14, lasting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the July Grounds at the Colville Indian Agency. In addition to lunch and snacks there will be door prizes, entertainment and valuable local resources for home and family. The public is invited.

the great kids

The Tall Timber Ranch near Leavenworth wrote to the Grand Coulee Dam School District to thank the board for allowing sixth grade students from the Grand Coulee Dam Middle School and Nespelem School to attend outdoor education classes at their resort.

“Your kids were a pleasure to work with. They were enthusiastic about each activity, polite, well-mannered and behaved, helpful and respectful of our community.” The board was also thanked by letter by several of the sixth grade students.

Board vacancies noted

The Okanogan County Board of Equalization has two vacancies and those interested in serving should send a letter of interest to the Okanogan County Commissioners. Members of the board, which reviews property tax issues, serve three-year terms.
